hey guys

Let me know what you think of the production in Reason 7 and what it may need in terms of quality and loudness etc .... ( its sort of an English song with an indian beat )

would appreciate anyone helping out with the mix and mastering ... just cant seem to get it loud enough when I compare it with other tracks ... and parallel processing on kong doesn't give me the same results ,,, ( must be doing a lot of things wrong I guess )

the cricket world cup is like next week feb 14 ... just thought of putting out a fun song ...

Im also a newbie in production but trying to learn by producing ...

The loudness war is pretty much over ;) but, if you want more loudness, i suggest squaching it a bit more (the popping transients) and soft clip it; Maximixer --> brick wall limiting --> amp up the output volume to 6db and set soft clip amount (around 40-60 i reckon)

hey osmose

I hear you about the loudness wars... checked it out too yesterday :)... thanks for that

what I do is to take the produced wav file ... launch it into traktor and compare it with the other tracks and what I notice is that some peaks with the other songs seem to be at quite a level but mine just seem stays flat throughout the song ....

so essentially do I squash it and maximise at the mastering suite at the master section or at the instrument level ?

cheers

well, normally you would squash it at the master section. To get more "overall loudness" but, if the transients are kinda flat already; i dont think that's the smartest thing to do cause there will be to little dynamics left. Which is gonna sound boring/ uninteresting in general.
But when you do compare, compare it with tracks that are somehow what similar on a technical basis. A big trance song always has less dynamics in terms of peaks then a hip hop beat for example. That is purely due to the nature of the track and the way they are mixed accordingly.

But regarding the mix, i think there is room for improvements. The vocals in particular. They're kinda hard to hear.
I'd give the vocal some more "air" (adding more high end around 8-12 khz) and maybe do the reverbe'd version on a parralel channel.

Cheers
