I checked out your track it has a relaxed groove to it and I like it. What comes to mind is some more variation or added elements not a lot of them just a few more to help add in listening points, As a song is moving a long there should be points of interests aside from the steady groove, the plot if you will.

Definitely agree. I have trouble with variation however. I seem to overdo it and turn a tune into a song. Too much variation is bad for DnB because it makes it hard for DJs to mix the tune in and out. Any suggestions on what kind of instrument I should bring in? I mostly use samples of real instruments in my production. Thank you for your time Matt!

I would try adding in some more of the horn in some kind of 2 to 3 may be 4 note melody... see what works or even try some other instrument....its melody that I think is missing.

IMHO the whole thing with writing music is about three things 1. the beat, 2. the hook, 3. the melody thats it. You can break down any song and they all will have those three elements and
they are the fundamental root of a song IMHO.

I havent listen to it, yet. But what made me feel inclined to respond is what you said about a tune versus a song.

Getting your tracks dj compatible can be a good thing, but! Do not let it limit your writing, or the track it self.
I sincerely believe that a "song" is better then a "tune".

Look at spors's "the hole were your house was", that track is ridiculous!

Just my 2 cents though ;)

You are right, it sucks to be limited. I only got one offer from one Record Label for one of my "songs" comparing to the rest of my "tunes."

Matt, the way I view a track is drums, bass, rhythm melody like chords, and the hook/hooks on top. Rhythm chords basically stay the same throughout the track but hooks change. I will look for some horns!

Would be glad to do so :) The very final version may have to be a cut from a radio show due to Record Label agreements.
