i worked on this last night and today.

what genre is it?

A genre is a specific type of music, film, or writing and the reason there are so many genres is because it is part of art and artists constantly try to individualize themselves which in turn draws attention to them and thus will create the need to label what they have created and now what many are doing.

And off course just a means of easily describing to someone what type of music youor making.
I awlays settle for vague, electronic, aggresive chill out ambient stuff.. Wich in turn still confuses people..

Sorry I mis-understood your post. I listened to that track and I hear Electronic. Now one could say its genre is Electric or they could say it is something else but it still has that Electronic feel IMHO.

I think this is a cool thread and the reason, no pun, is that the question the OP put forth is one that beckons input and and awesomely and most sadly there is a chance that people will learn and even more we might create a new genre

to be fair i hate this division of genre its all just sound as far as i'm concerned and the value and musicality of a duration of sound lies within the perception of the listener. a smarter man than i eluded to the point that, "its all relative".

Offcourse, it's all relative. But it's in the human nature to "box" things and create divisions. It's just how the brain works.
But, must confess.. I to can't stand people fuzzing around on, let's say Youtube commenting "this isn't dubstep! This is liquid drum 'n bass!" on a "ambient dubstep" chillout mix that some dj mixed in 1,5 hour of his spare time.

In my experiences, when I sit down at a blank screen and say to myself 'I'm gonna make a techno track' straight away I've imposed a set of rules/boundaries and formulas on what I can put into the track.. For example a techno track with long snare rolls and hi-passed swept filter noise makes it commercial techno.. Or if I decide to make a breakbeat for my techno track then is it still techno ?.

Making a track to a genre is great practice though, and being able to make music in several genres will certainly help make anyone a better producer.

EDit- it helps to know the rules, so you know when you're breaking them.
