Hi! Ive been trying to figure out how to route my Kong to 16 separate mix channels so all of my individual pads have their own channel on the ssl Mixer. I have watched numerous youtube videos explaining how to do this.
Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj60VGLqqQ0

Ill do this exact method but Ill hit my pad one and audio will show up on mix channel 1 and 2. Not understanding . any advice or help?

Welcome!! The way that guy set it up is not good because drums are a mono instrument but for room mics if they are setup for stereo recording. Having each drum stereo really IMHO starts causing issues when you start mixing your song. You most likely will have to just make them mono anyway. Kongs outputs are mono for a reason.....it's a drum sampler.

Watch our tutorial and if you want you can download a reason song file that will open it up all setup for you. Download it in the FREE Stuff forum.

Yeah I agree with Matt. It's pointless to wire mono into stereo before going to the SSL channel. If the drum sample is recorded with different information in the left and right channel (i.e. wide layered snares or claps), then leave it in stereo. If you want a wide stereo drum sample in mono, then just take either the left or right channel for that sound into the SSL. I would avoid using the SSL width knob to turn a stereo signal into mono (phasing problems). Best practice is to wire in mono from the kong :D

True, true... But, i do tend to route them stereo cause i like to further process almost every sample i use, wich might turn into a stereo sound. Since it doesnt really require more cpu i wouldn't be a bad habbit.

Unless you dont bother doing further processing offcourse.

But ye, never use the width button to get a wider sound!

"i like to further process almost every sample i use".

Nice! I should start doing that. but I get impatient lol. Actually, I saw Noisia does a lot of extra processing on their samples too and they sound awesome as well.

If you want to output kong as stereo you should only use the stereo output pairs IMHO this way the samples if stereo are not summed to mono than back to stereo which I would think would loose the true stereo sound.
There are only 8 stereo outputs so you would need to use two Kongs if you need 16 pads.

well, its a really good ahbit if you start doing so in my opinion :p

I've gotten to the point were i can get good "drum" sound out of almost any dry sample i find, good or bad.
Its a hassle at first untill you get some tricks up your sleeve wich will further increase your sounddesign skills overall!

Needless to say i do find enjoyment out of tweaking stuff for almost hours.. Then again, i love experimening :p
