Rack Extensions LATENCY

Hey Everyone,
I wonder if Rack Extensions cause latency when being used. Especially because there are some free ones that would improve my workflow like the Polymodular Audio Merger/Splitter by blamesoft.
At the moment i am using the Spider audio Merger/Splitter because it works just fine and i am more confident using it concerning latency.
Do Rack Extensions automatically cause latency? Or maybe just some of them?
Thanks for reading :)

I think that makes sense. I wouldnt mind some global latency (like a 4 ms delay on the whole project). I am just afraid that individual channels are delayed.

I would agree with VB but also add that in order for a developer to have a RE in the Shop it has to meet their requirements which I assume are very hi and they are always looking to better them. I never have had any latency problems in Reason using any RE's. Also The computer has to be taken into consideration and lastly people tend to have tons of tracks going and not think to convert some of them to Audio so as to easy up on the CPU.

I did. And i am pretty sure that back then i would not have made music. Its the possibility to make everything i want with a 350$ program, instead of expensive hardware, mastering engineers, a band, that got me started in the first place... I don`t even have to play an instrument very well. I got infinite takes and if that still doesn`t work i can just draw/edit the midi notes until they sound perfect. I can play around with every element of my track without having to worry about losing something. In the worst case i just go to my backup file and start all over again. There are so many possibilities nowadays its not comparable to the time before everything went digital. And even though you can sit down with a mic and a guitar and record a song in a few takes thats not my way to approach this (Maybe because i can`t play the guitar). I like to get very "nerdy" about things like latency, sound design and other things. And i am glad that Reason allows me to.

Well every device causes a bit of latency, the amount of latency differs per device though. But as long as you don't have 2 identical sounds of which one is delayed, you won't notice it (since 99,9 percent of device usage add change to the sound).

But for fun you could split an audio signal, run 1 trough 20 eq's and the other one straight to the mixer and hear it's effect :p

for the RE latency , there is a little utilies RE verry usefull and not expensive
https://shop.propellerheads.se/product/vmg-01-sample-delay/ for only 12 €
you can check all you FX RE with it and make the compensation.
I checked a lot of Re Fx and one thing to know is the propellerhead RE have no latency.
but some EFFECTS OF THIRD have latency
here is diferents mesures in samples delay at 16bits/ 44.1khrtz
Neptune have varations between 840 and 1040 samples
Polar 2561 samples
Rotor 17/ 75 samples

I made the complet list with all RE latency
but that have not been saved.
too long to restart now,
certainly in few hours.
Sorry for that
