I am happy to say that today the new studio desk will start being built and put together. It's been a long time coming and with all that time I took what I thought were good ideas and added in some of mine and have come up with a very easy studio desk build that should meet most peoples needs IMHO. For this desk I wanted a lot of space, a keyboard tray and tons of storage, the design is all around a 4x8 and the desk will be 4x8 simple as that. Also it will be easy to disassemble and not have cables all over the place. When I am done I will give a full tutorial on how I made the desk and answer any questions. Stay tuned!

Here is a picture of the desk top with the controller tray cut out. I just sanded the top and used a water based polyurethane to coat it, a total of 4 coats in all. The 4x8 is just sanded plywood $34 and change from Home Depot. Also there is a picture of the base/shelving system I designed. It will have peg shelving which will give me easy adjustable shelfs

Here is a pic of the desk and the bases as I am positioning everything before I screw everything in place. The keyboard try will screw into the 2x4 just above it and you can see the plastic cable gutter just behind the back support beam. The key is get measuring and accurate cuts and everything fits together nicely.

nice build. But why have the keyboard slide slide in at that height? It seems like it just fits under the main top board so there is no room for a keyboard as well when sliding it back in?

Os I posted that the tray would screw into the 2x4 just above it. When the tray is attached it will give me 4" from the bottom of the desk to the top of the tray. More pics later today.

Thanks! Ya there is lot of room and storage and I love the keyboard tray, there when you need it out of the way when you don't and most of all no cables all over the place.

Don't know your room layout but you should try to move that right monitor from the corner Matt ;)

I mix in my Sony MDR-V6 Headphones. The desk is in a loft and there is no way I could get the room anywhere close to tuned, my monitors are for just monitoring anything I play and my Mac. Learning my headphones made life so much easier and a hell of a lot cheaper

or get some acoustic treatment ;)

Acoustic treatment is of course really important. But before get in there a good placement of the listening position should be considered.

Usually before treating a room you want to try various monitors placement in the room and make measurements. Once you found the best result then you can start focusing on your room treatment.

Before that i was working in a untreated room and it was impossible for me to work with the monitors, i couldn't trust them and make any decision and i was therefore always using my headphones instead but it was very fatiguing when working on long sessions...

Since i get to another room that i totally treated with results of a margin +5/-5db on the whole frequency spectrum range and placed my monitors meticulously i can tell you that i never had to put my headphone again..It's a totally different world, it's like going from a 2D video game to a 3D one. My only regret here is that i didn't make that room long time before.
